On the evening of September 29, 2020, President Xi Jinping had a phone call with Argentine President Alberto Fernández.
Xi Jinping noted, the COVID-19 pandemic is a severe test for the whole world. In the face of the pandemic, both the Chinese and Argentine governments have adhered to the principle of putting people and life first, and prioritized life and health of the people. Our two countries have been standing together and helping each other in the battle. The Chinese side is willing to continue to provide assistance for the Argentine side within its capacity, and deepen bilateral vaccine cooperation. The Chinese side stands ready to, together with the international community, including Argentina, firmly support the World Health Organization (WHO) in playing a leading role, join hands to prevail over the pandemic at an early date, and build together a community with a shared future for mankind.
Xi Jinping emphasized, the Chinese side attaches great importance to its relations with Argentina, supports the Argentine side in developing its economy and improving people's wellbeing, and has full confidence in the future cooperation between the two countries. China will lift the level of opening up in a comprehensive manner and foster a new development architecture with the domestic cycle as the mainstay and with domestic and international development reinforcing each other, which will create ample market and development opportunities for all countries across the world, including Argentina. China-Argentina practical cooperation boasts a sound foundation, strong resilience and huge potential. The Chinese side welcomes more good-quality agricultural and livestock products and high value-added commodities from Argentina, and welcomes Argentina's participation in the third China International Import Expo. Both sides should implement existing major projects in earnest, open up new areas for cooperation, and deepen people-to-people exchanges, so as to push for greater development of China-Argentina comprehensive strategic partnership.
Xi Jinping stressed, mankind has entered a new era of interconnectivity, with countries sharing intertwined interests and future closely linked together. Whether in combating the pandemic or in restoring the economy, the world needs to uphold the vision of a community with a shared future for mankind and pursue the path of solidarity, cooperation and common development. Both China and Argentina are important emerging markets and developing countries. The Chinese side is willing to enhance communication and coordination with the Argentine side within international organizations and multilateral frameworks, such as the United Nations (UN), the Group of 20 (G20), and the World Trade Organization, support multilateralism, promote the building of an open and inclusive world economy, push for green, low-carbon and sustainable development, and help make the international system and international order more just and reasonable.
Alberto Fernández wished the Chinese people a happy National Day. He said, I have listened carefully to President Xi Jinping's speech at the General Debate of the 75th Session of the UN General Assembly, and admire your vision and commitment. Both Argentina and China adhere to multilateralism, and share common grounds on many issues, such as tackling climate change. The Argentine side is willing to strengthen communication and cooperation with the Chinese side on these issues. China's development presents an important opportunity for Argentina, therefore strengthening bilateral relations is a top priority in Argentina's foreign policy. The Argentine side hopes to deepen bilateral cooperation in a wide range of fields such as trade, investment, infrastructure and finance, and jointly build the Belt and Road Initiative. It is believed that this will greatly boost Argentina's economic and social development. The Argentine side thanks the Chinese side for providing support and assistance in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, opposes any attempt to politicize the disease, supports the WHO in playing a leading role, and hopes to continue to deepen vaccine cooperation with the Chinese side.
