|Wang Yi: Attending to Both Fairness and Efficiency Is the Key to Reforming Global Governance System|
On the evening of September 4, 2020, while attending the virtual meeting of BRICS foreign ministers in Beijing, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi said, while we adhere to multilateralism, we must work to reform and improve the global governance system, and the key to this task is to attend to both fairness and efficiency.
Wang Yi noted, fairness means increasing the representation and voice of developing countries in international affairs, particularly small and medium-sized countries and African countries, in a bid to reflect the reality and development trend of international politics. A higher efficiency will enable international organizations, including the United Nations, to respond to all kinds of new threats and challenges more effectively and promptly, and realize modernization of the governance system and capability. COVID-19 has laid bare the inadequacies in the global governance system. And reform is the general trend. This calls on BRICS countries to strengthen coordination and cooperation.
