|President Xi Jinping Writes back to Global CEO Council|
President Xi Jinping wrote back to the Global CEO Council on 15 July, commending the Council's firm confidence in China's peaceful development and opening-up, its commitment to being in China for a long time, and its constructive views and recommendations on China's development.
Xi wrote, "China is pursuing economic and social development while ensuring COVID-19 containment on an ongoing basis. This year is the target year set for China to secure a decisive victory in building a moderately prosperous society in all respects and to eradicate poverty nationwide. The fundamentals that underpin the sound and sustained growth of the Chinese economy have not and will not change. China will continue to deepen reform and opening-up, and fully deliver on the key policy measures for ensuring stability on six fronts (namely, employment, the financial sector, foreign trade, foreign investment, domestic investment, and expectations) and maintaining security in six areas (namely, job security, basic living needs, operations of market entities, food and energy security, stable industrial and supply chains, and the normal functioning of primary-level governments). These initiatives are designed to further improve China's business environment and create new opportunities and prospects for investors from home and abroad. In this connection, I would say that you have made the right choice by remaining committed to being in China."
"In today's world where the interests of countries are highly intertwined, humanity is indeed a community with a shared future, and mutually beneficial cooperation represents the prevailing trend of the times," Xi stressed. "China will stay committed to the path of peaceful development, and continue to advance an economic globalization that is more open, inclusive, balanced and beneficial for all and promote an open world economy. I hope that in a spirit of mutually beneficial cooperation and shared development, you will have more exchanges and cooperation with Chinese companies and contribute your share to global economic recovery."
The Global CEO Council consists of 39 multinationals who are industry leaders of different sectors. Recently, 18 CEOs of the Council wrote a joint letter to President Xi, commending China for promptly containing the spread of COVID-19 under Xi's strong leadership and being among the first to resume economic activities, thus playing a positive stabilizing role in supporting the global fight against the virus and restoring the world economy.
They noted that President Xi's important remarks on finding opportunities during crisis and seeking progress amidst changes, and China's commitment to economic globalization and vision for a more open, inclusive, mutual and balanced future give them more confidence in China and more reason to remain committed to being in China and for China for a long time. They also voiced their views and shared their recommendations on China's development in the post-COVID-19 era and on China's international cooperation.
