|State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi Speaks with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov on the Phone|
On 28 June, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi had a phone call with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov.
Wang stated that China always sets great store by its friendly relations with Turkmenistan and sees the country as a good friend, good brother and good partner. President Xi Jinping values the trust and friendship between himself and President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. The two presidents have maintained close contact and provided strategic guidance for furthering the bilateral relations. Whatever change may take place in the regional and international landscapes, China remains committed to its friendship with Turkmenistan. China stands ready to work with Turkmenistan and make the bilateral relationship a fine example of state-to-state relations featuring equality, mutual respect and mutual benefit.
Wang thanked Turkmenistan for its support to China on COVID-19 and commended Turkmenistan's rigorous response measures. Wang pointed out that the disease has shown once again that all countries live in a community with a shared future, and that solidarity and cooperation is the most powerful weapon to defeat the virus. Regrettably, some countries kept politicizing the virus and smearing China out of self-serving purposes, going as far as fabricating all kinds of lies. Such practices have crossed the boundary of human morality and will only be met with the unequivocal opposition of the international community.
Wang reaffirmed China's readiness to conduct interactions and advance cooperation with Turkmenistan in flexible and diverse ways, thus minimizing the impact of COVID-19 on bilateral cooperation. The two sides need to sign the cooperation document on synergizing China's Belt and Road Initiative and Turkmenistan's development strategy of Rejuvenating the Silk Road as early as possible, and continue with the stable strategic cooperation in the long run, including on natural gas and in other traditional areas of cooperation. It is also important to explore cooperation potential and expand medical and health cooperation to add more substance to the bilateral relationship. China stands ready to work with Turkmenistan to enhance communication and coordination on international affairs, give each other strong support, and safeguard the two countries' common interests as developing countries and emerging markets.
Meredov said that Turkmenistan speaks highly of the strength of Turkmenistan-China strategic partnership. The two countries maintain close collaboration on the political and diplomatic fronts, and firmly support each other in international affairs. Turkmenistan admires the tremendous efforts made by China and the major progress it has achieved in fighting COVID-19, and is grateful to China for taking good care of the Turkmen citizens in China. Turkmenistan opposes the politicization of epidemics under any circumstance, as such politicization can do no good to global anti-epidemic cooperation.
Meredov reaffirmed Turkmenistan's commitment to growing its traditional friendship with China and readiness to maintain communication at top level and between various departments, and advance bilateral exchanges and cooperation in various fields in flexible ways. Turkmenistan is of the view that Hong Kong- and Xinjiang-related matters are purely China's internal affairs which brook no interference by any country according to the purposes and principles of the UN Charter.
