|State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi Speaks on the Phone with Indonesian Government's Coordinator for Cooperation with China and Coordinating Minister Luhut Pandjaitan|
On 18 March, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi had a phone call with Indonesian government's coordinator for cooperation with China and Coordinating Minister Luhut Pandjaitan.
Luhut congratulated China on its success in dealing with COVID-19. He commended China for acting forcefully and bringing the epidemic under control, which is not easy for a country with a 1.4 billion population. The world is deeply impressed by President Xi Jinping's outstanding leadership and the unity of the Chinese people. Indonesia congratulates China on its extraordinary effectiveness in its response and thanks China for the medical supplies it provided. To confront the rapid spread of the virus, Indonesia would like to learn from China's experience. Indonesia also looks forward to an early resumption of exchanges and cooperation with China once the epidemic is fully under control, including the celebrations of the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations and the further advancement of the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed railway.
Wang said that under the strong leadership of President Xi Jinping, the Chinese people have engaged in an extraordinary battle against the outbreak. The dawn of victory is breaking. When China was presented with this challenge, President Joko Widodo called President Xi Jinping to express Indonesia's support for China. The Indonesian government and people across the society helped out by donating medical supplies. China deeply appreciates these acts of friendship.
Wang noted that with the epidemic now weighing on Indonesia, China feels for Indonesia and stands ready to do its utmost to help Indonesia as its close friend despite the pressure on China's own medical supplies. China is confident that under the leadership of President Joko Widodo, Indonesia will prevail over the virus at an early date. As this year marks the 70th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties, it is important to focus on the Belt and Road cooperation, including the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed railway and other priority projects.
Wang said that the virus never stops at national borders. It is a common enemy for mankind and requires a collective response. Since the start of the outbreak, China has acted with openness and transparency by sharing the genome sequence of the virus and actively engaging in international cooperation. China has made huge sacrifices in fighting the epidemic. This has not only protected the health and safety of its own people, but also bought precious time for the international community to brace for the virus. China's response has been highly recognized by the WHO and the international community. History will also judge China's efforts in a fair and objective way. China is firmly against the stigmatization of any specific country by linking it with the virus, for this is immoral and unfair. It does no good to the world's collective response to COVID-19 and can only distract countries from their domestic responses. Defeating the virus matters to the health and safety of every human being. It is a battle that must be fought by us all. China will continue to stand firmly with the international community to secure the final victory in this battle.
