On August 1, 2019 local time, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Pham Bình Minh of Vietnam in Bangkok, Thailand.

Wang Yi said, China and Vietnam are friendly neighbouring countries, and both are socialist countries. The series of important consensus has been reached by the leaders of the two countries and the two ruling parties on safeguarding the common strategic interests of both sides. Under the current circumstances, both sides should make joint efforts to enhance all-level communication and coordination, and in particular, make sure the implementation of the consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries and the two ruling parties, in a bid to properly handle the maritime situation. The two countries should also properly address differences through dialogue and consultation, and not allow maritime issues to affect the general picture of bilateral relations.

Pham Bình Minh expressed, Vietnam and China are socialist countries with a bond of camaraderie plus brotherhood. Since the beginning of this year, Vietnam-China relations have seen positive development in every sector, with frequent high-level exchanges of visits between the two ruling parties and the two countries. Both sides are committed to deepening the Vietnam-China comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership. The Vietnamese side is willing to join hands with the Chinese side to earnestly implement the important consensuses reached by the leaders of the two countries on maritime issues, so as to promote the healthy development of bilateral relations.
