|Wang Yi Meets with Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan of Singapore|
On July 31, 2019 local time, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan of Singapore in Bangkok, Thailand.
Wang Yi said, China-Singapore relations have maintained a robust momentum of development. The frequent high-level exchanges between the two sides have injected new impetus into the bilateral relations. As the year 2020 marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relationship between the two countries, the Chinese side is ready to work with the Singaporean side to implement the consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, deepen cooperation in the Belt and Road Initiative, highlight both the New International Land-Sea trade Corridor and trilateral cooperation, as well as strengthen cooperation in innovation and smart city. We are ready to join hands with the Singaporean side to continue our firm support for free trade and building an open world economy.
Wang Yi noted, the Chinese side congratulates the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) on its positive progress. As the first dialogue partnership, China-ASEAN relations have played a leading and exemplary role for ASEAN's other dialogue partners. China and the ASEAN are strategic partners and a community with shared future as well, therefore the growth of the ASEAN and China is closely related. The Chinese side will work with the Singaporean side for the success of Foreign Ministers' Meetings on East Asia Cooperation and focus on cooperation and development so as to jointly promote development and prosperity in the region.
Vivian Balakrishnan noted, China-Singapore relations enjoy sound development. The two sides have intensified high-level exchanges, and aligned development strategies in an in-depth manner. Both sides have made active efforts to build upgraded bilateral free trade zone, witnessed smooth progress of inter-governmental cooperation projects and intensified cooperation in advancing free trade. The Singaporean side upholds the One-China policy and is glad to see substantial progress made in the overall cooperation between the ASEAN and China. It is ready to continue its constructive role in promoting the relations between the ASEAN and China.
