On July 30, 2019 local time, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Foreign Secretary Teodoro Lopez Locsin of the Philippines in Bangkok, Thailand.
Wang Yi said, President Xi Jinping and President Rodrigo Duterte have had seven meetings over the past three years. With their strong determination, the two countries' top leaders have overcome difficulties, removed disturbances and jointly pushed forward the development of bilateral relations along the right track. Facts have proven that the China-Philippines friendly relations are totally in line with the common interests of the two sides. Bilateral cooperation has yielded fruitful results, bringing tangible benefits to the Philippine people. The Chinese side has always regarded the Philippines as a priority in China's neighbourhood diplomacy. China is willing to, together with the Philippine side, further intensify high-level exchanges, deepen political mutual trust, promote the in-depth synergy between the Belt and Road Initiative and the "Build, Build, Build" Program, as well as accelerate mutually beneficial cooperation in such fields as infrastructure construction, telecommunications, and oil and gas exploration.
Wang Yi noted, the past year has witnessed positive achievements in cooperation between China and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). As the country coordinator for China-ASEAN relations, the Philippines has made positive contributions to the relations. The Chinese side is willing to cooperate closely with ASEAN countries, including the Philippines, to make the Foreign Ministers' Meetings on East Asia Cooperation a success, focus on the cooperation and development, release the positive messages and jointly boost regional stability and prosperity.
Teodoro Lopez Locsin noted, the Philippines and China enjoy solid mutual trust and friendship. The Philippine side is willing to intensify high-level exchanges, strengthen dialogues and communication, promote mutually beneficial cooperation and cooperate on maritime oil and gas exploration. With a focus on regional development and prosperity, the ASEAN is committed to maintaining its centrality. It should not engage in any so-called strategy with geopolitical overtones.
