Wang Yi Holds the Third China-Brazil Foreign Ministerial-Level Comprehensive Strategic Dialogue with Foreign Minister Ernesto Araujo of Brazil


On July 25, 2019 local time, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi held the 3rd China-Brazil Foreign Ministerial-Level Comprehensive Strategic Dialogue with Foreign Minister Ernesto Araujo of Brazil in Brasilia.

Wang Yi said, China and Brazil are the most representative emerging markets and large developing countries with international influence in the eastern and western hemisphere respectively. There are neither historical issues nor current conflicts between the two countries. Instead, the two countries share great complementarity and potential for cooperation, which makes the two countries natural cooperation partners. Having always placed China-Brazil relations in an important position in its diplomacy, the Chinese side stands ready to work with the Brazilian side and take the opportunity of the 45th anniversary of the establishment of China-Brazil diplomatic relationship to elevate China-Brazil relations to a new high and make the two countries a good example of solidarity and cooperation between emerging markets and a stable force for world peace and development.

Wang Yi stressed, for the next stage, China and Brazil should strengthen high-level exchanges, deepen political mutual trust and understand and support each other on issues concerning each other's core interests and major concerns. The Chinese side appreciates the Brazilian side's strong interest in the joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative, and stands ready to work with the Brazilian side to actively explore the alignment of the Belt and Road Initiative and the Investment Partnerships Program of Brazil, deepen bilateral cooperation in such fields as agriculture, electricity, mining and infrastructure construction, promote the prompt delivery of a series of major projects and forge scientific and technological innovation and digital economy into new growth drivers for cooperation. The two sides should enhance people-to-people and cultural exchanges so as to lay a solid foundation of public support for bilateral friendship. China attaches importance to the significant position and role of Brazil in Latin America and stands ready to become the twin engines promoting China-Latin America cooperation along with the Brazilian side. China and Brazil should jointly defend multilateralism, safeguard the international system with the United Nations (UN) as its core, the international order based on international law and multilateral trading system represented by World Trade Organization, and strengthen coordination and cooperation under the mechanisms including the UN, BRICS, and the G20. The Chinese side will fully support the Brazilian side for successfully hosting the BRICS Summit this year.

Ernesto Araujo said, Brazil attaches great importance to the comprehensive strategic partnership with China. He speaks positively of the huge benefits brought to the two peoples by the development of bilateral relations for the past 45 years since the establishment of diplomatic relationship. Brazil will firmly pursue the One-China policy as always. President Jair Bolsonaro looks forward to his visit to China in October this year and warmly welcomes President Xi Jinping to the BRICS Summit in Brazil in November this year. Brazil admires very much the great achievements China has made in its development and is optimistic about the prospects of Brazil-China cooperation. China is welcome to expand investment in Brazil. Brazil stands ready to actively explore the alignment of the Brazilian side's the Investment Partnerships Program with the joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative, strengthen cooperation in such fields as agriculture, economy and trade, digital economy, infrastructure construction and counter-corruption, and cement exchanges in such fields as culture, education and tourism. Brazil is committed to safeguarding multilateralism and free trade, building an open world economy and promoting regional integration process. Brazil hopes to strengthen coordination with China within the frameworks of the UN and the G20, and jointly promote the overall cooperation between Latin America and China for greater progress. The Brazilian side stands ready to strengthen coordination with the Chinese side to jointly promote the BRICS Summit this year for positive results.

The two sides also exchanged in-depth views on development strategies, diplomatic policies, and international and regional issues of common concern. After the dialogue, the two sides jointly met the press.
