2019-06-15

On June 15, 2019 local time, President Xi Jinping met with Emir Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani of Qatar in Dushanbe.

Xi Jinping expressed appreciation for Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani's active commitment to promoting China-Qatar relations. Xi Jinping pointed out that during His Royal Highness Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani's state visit to China this January, we had an in-depth exchange of views on promoting China-Qatar strategic partnership under the new situation, and reached broad consensus. The two sides should consolidate political mutual trust and continue to understand and support each other on issues concerning each other's core interests. The two sides should speed up all-round cooperation in fields including energy, economy and trade, infrastructure construction, investment and the 5th generation mobile communications. Both sides should strengthen counter-terrorism cooperation. We appreciate the Qatari side's support for the Chinese side's efforts in counter-terrorism and de-radicalization and are ready to strengthen coordination and cooperation with the Qatari side in multilateral affairs.

Emir Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani noted that Qatar-China relations are of strategic significance. My visit to China this January was very successful. The Qatari side is ready to work with the Chinese side to deepen cooperation in key areas such as investment and energy and enhance people-to-people and cultural exchanges. Firmly supporting the Chinese side's efforts to safeguard sovereignty and fight against terrorism, the Qatari side speaks highly of China's fair stance on advocating settlement of differences among countries through dialogue and is ready to intensify coordination with the Chinese side in multilateral affairs.

Wang Yi attended the meeting.
