Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Kong Quan's Remarks on the Latest Development of the Chinese Casualties in a Car Bomb Attack in Pakistan

Q:It has been more than 30 hours since the explosion in the port of Gwadar, Pakistan. What is the latest development?
A: I would like to make the following three points:
    1. On May 3rd, the day of the explosion, Pakistan, President Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Zafarullah Khan Jamali sent telegrams of sympathy to President Hu Jintao and Premier Wen Jiabao respectively to convey comfort to the injured and condolences to the families of the killed in the incident. They added that the Pakistani side will provide the best treatment for the Chinese injured in the explosion and take measures to ensure the safety and security of all Chinese citizens in Pakistan. In the evening, the Pakistani Communication Minister Senator Babar Ghori went to the hospital to convey the comfort of Pakistan's President Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Zafarullah Khan Jamali to the injured. China will send a joint working group made up of officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Communications, Ministry of Commerce and medical staff to handle medical care and related affairs with the Pakistani counterparts.
    2. The Chinese Embassy in Pakistan and the Department of Consular Affairs of China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs urgently called in the Pakistani officials from Pakistani Foreign Ministry and the Charge d'affaires a.i. of the Pakistani Embassy in Beijing on May 3rd and May 4th respectively. During their meetings, the Chinese officials lodged representations on the explosion to the Pakistani side and urged them to try their utmost to rescue the injured and handle the related affairs. The Chinese side also urged the Pakistani side to find out the cause of the event, punish the killer and take effective measures to guarantee the safety of Chinese people in Pakistan.
   
3. Currently, the Pakistani police are having a full investigation into the explosion and reporting the case timely to the Chinese side.
