Greetings of Governor of New South Wales Professor Bashir for the Recpetion Celebrating the 2012 Chinese New Year

2012-01-19

Message from Her Excellency,Professor Marie Bashir AC CVO

It gives me great pleasure to send greetings of best wishes, good health and good fortune to all members of the Chinese community in New South Wales – and indeed to those living far beyond this State.

There can be no doubt that Chinese members of the Australian community have contributed over many years to the growth of Australian society in commerce, the arts, the trades and in all the professions including medicine and scientific research, and more.

As an individual who for a lifetime has had the highest regard for the achievements and the culture of the Chinese people, I have made many visits to China since the 1970's and witnessed for myself not only the continuing success and increasing well being of the Chinese people, but also the growth and strength of the relationship between the nations of Australia and China.

In 2012, The Year of The Dragon, I am confident that this relationship will continue to extend, not only in terms of economic success, but in working together towards harmony and peace in our region and beyond.

May your celebrations tonight be a joyful occasion for all, and herald continuing success in the Year of the Dragon.

Professor Marie R Bashir AC CVO
Governor of New South Wales
