|Consul General Duan Jielong Called on President of NSW Legislative Council|
On May 17, Mr. Duan Jielong, Consul General of the People's Republic of China in Sydney, paid his first official call on Mr. Don Harwin, President of New South Wales Legislative Council.
Mr. Duan extended congratulations on Mr. Harwin's assumption of office. He noted that the cooperative relationship between China and the state of NSW has become closer than ever. During the past years, China's National People's Congress (NPC), the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), and legislative bodies from different provinces of China conducted frequent exchanges with NSW Legislative Council, which have played an important role in promoting mutual understanding and friendship. The Consul General invited Mr. Harwin to visit China.
Mr. Harwin expressed his warmest welcome to the Consul General. He stressed that the relationship with China is one of the most important for the state of NSW, and Premier O'Farrell's upcoming visit to China will give a fresh boost to the ties between NSW and relevant Chinese provinces, especially in economic and cultural fields. The President recalled his past meetings with delegations from different localities in China, and made it clear that NSW Legislative Council would continue its friendly exchanges with legislative bodies in China, and support the development of comprehensive and cooperative relationship between NSW and China. He looked forward to visiting China in the capacity of President of NSW Legislative Council soon.
