|Consul General Hu Shan Met with Young Students Attending Sister-city Program|
Mudanjiang, a city of Heilongjiang Province in Northeast China, established sister-city relationship with Mosman in NSW in 1998. This relationship has been fruitful and both sides increasingly expressed interest to strengthen people-to-people links at the grassroots level. Under one initiative of this nature, 6 girls from underprivileged rural families in Mudanjiang visited Sydney under a one-month study tour program sponsored by the Mosman City Council in January 2011.
On 22 Feburay, 2011, Consul General Hu Shan met with the 6 young students from Mudanjiang, accompanied by Ms. Anne Connon, Mayor of Mosman City Council, and the host families for the 6 girls.
Consul General Hu spoke highly of the achievements made by Mudanjiang and Mosman in developing their sister-city relationship. He thanked Mayor Connon, Mosman City Council and the host families for their efforts in arranging the girls’ trip to Australia, which add new content to sister-city relationship between cities in China and Australia. He stressed that with the rapid development of China-Australia relations in various fields, the people-to-people links, and particularly those between young people, have become all the more important in bringing the hearts of the people closer, building consensus between the two nations, and providing impetus for a long-term steady development of the bilateral relationship. He encouraged the girls to make good use of this valuable opportunity, making friends while learning, and become ambassadors of friendship between China and Australia.
Mayor Connon thanked Consul General Hu Shan for making time to meet with the delegation. She said she had been to China many times, and each time she noticed great changes taking place around the country. The Mosman City Council was honored to host the girls’ visit, and everyone was so touched by the positive and hard-working spirit of the Chinese youth. Mosman City Council would like to continue its friendly and cooperative relationship with China.
The young girls briefed Consul General Hu Shan their pleasant experience in Mosman. They expressed their sincere thanks to Mosman City Council and their host families for making the trip possible, and vowed to keep studying hard and making contribution to the friendship between the Chinese and Australian peoples.
On bidding farewell, Consul General Hu Shan presented stationeries to the girls, and books about China to their host families.
Deputy Consul General Ji Ningfeng attended the meeting.
