Dear friends of New South Wales, ladies and gentlemen:
Today marks the 71st anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we are celebrating this special occasion on-line and taking this opportunity to renew our friendship.
Over the past 71 years, the Chinese people have made remarkable achievements in development and the country has undergone tremendous changes.
----China's economy is about to exceed 100 trillion RMB, and its contribution to world economic growth has exceeded 30% for many consecutive years. In 2019, China's GDP accounted for more than 16% of the world economy, and per capita GDP exceeded $10,000 U.S. dollars for the first time.
----The Chinese government continues to improve people's livelihoods and well-being, through education, medical care, housing, aged care, and social security, and the Chinese people's sense of gain, happiness, and security have increased significantly. China is unswerving in advancing its fight against poverty and striving to achieve common prosperity. In 2019 alone, more than 10 million people were lifted out of poverty.
----China's innovation capability is increasing every day, and new generation information technologies such as Internet, big data, the Internet of Things, cloud computing and artificial intelligence are developing rapidly and widely used.
----China's "circle of friends" continues to expand. We have established diplomatic relations with 180 countries and various forms of partnership with more than 110 countries and international organisations. China has become the largest trading partner of around 130 countries and regions.
The remarkable achievements China has made over the past 71 years could not have been achieved without the strong leadership of the Communist Party of China, the path of socialism with Chinese characteristics suited to China's national conditions, and the strategy of opening up featuring peaceful development, mutual benefit, and win-win results.
2020 has been an extraordinary year for China. Faced with the sudden outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic at the beginning of the year, China took a series of resolute and decisive prevention and control measures in the spirit of "putting people first" and "saving lives above all". Guided by the vision of a community with a shared future for mankind, China has actively promoted international cooperation against Covid-19 to jointly safeguard global public health security.
We are glad to see that China has fundamentally brought the epidemic under control and is coordinating epidemic prevention and control with economic and social development. China's economic growth rate turned around from negative to positive in the second quarter, and China is expected to become the only major economy to maintain any economic growth in 2020. This year, China will complete the building of a moderately prosperous society in all respects and eradicate absolute poverty for the first time in history. China's continuous development will inject strong impetus into the global economic recovery and bring more opportunities for cooperation to countries around the world.
Friends, ladies and gentlemen:
At present, China-Australia relations are facing difficulties. We have always believed that the healthy and stable development of China-Australia relations serves the fundamental interests of the two countries and their peoples. China hopes that Australia will take an objective and rational view on China's development, uphold the principles of mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit, and do more to enhance mutual trust and cooperation between the two countries.
State-Province cooperation is the foundation for the development of China-Australia relations. New South Wales has long been at the forefront of Australia's states and territories in growing its cooperation with China. Last year, New South Wales and China's Guangdong Province jointly celebrated the 40th anniversary of their sister state/province relationship. The Chinese side is willing to work with New South Wales to further deepen friendly exchanges and practical cooperation in various fields in order to bring more benefits to the people on both sides. The third China International Import Expo will be held in Shanghai in early November. The New South Wales government and enterprises are welcome to participate in the exhibition, expand exports to China, and enhance the level of economic and trade cooperation.
Friends, ladies and gentlemen:
Over the years, the Chinese community in Australia have actively integrated into and given back to the local society. They have made positive contributions to Australia's economic and social development and China-Australia friendship. They are respected and recognised by all sectors of Australian society. We sincerely hope that the Chinese community in New South Wales will continue to lead good lives and play an active role in the development of China-Australia relations.
Finally, I wish New South Wales early victory over the Covid-19 pandemic, and extend to friends from all walks of life in New South Wales my warm wishes for the best of health, successful work and happy family life!
